LIVE WIRE (Kelly Ripa) – Entertaining Celebrity Memoir on Marriage, Motherhood, & TV

A Fun Read

Kelly Ripa’s book – Live Wire – was my first read of 2023. What a fun way to kick off the year! I wouldn’t consider myself a Live! fan or even a Kelly Ripa fan, but I do find her a funny personality and was interested in what she had to say.

Live Wire is a collection of short stories about Ripa’s life, from her marriage to Mark Consuelo to parenting their three children to her career. She writes with humor and candor, and I often found myself laughing out loud.

What’s Inside Live Wire?

Live Wire is no great, profound memoir. The writing is basic and straightforward. There were no big words, overarching thematic elements, or other elements of classic literature.

No particular rhyme or reason I determined from the stories she included or the order in which she told them.

Ripa simply regales her readers with funny, embarrassing, and heartwarming tales. It’s that simple! And that entertaining.

What I Enjoyed

I particularly enjoyed the peek into Ripa’s 25 year marriage with Consuelo – a feat, I would argue, for those in showbusiness, not to mention the fact they hastily eloped after breaking up five days prior.

Her views and devotion toward motherhood were refreshing. It was also interesting to see how she navigated pregnancy and motherhood with her career in a time where maternity leave was unpaid and she was strapped to her “All My Children” soap opera contract.

Ripa’s sharp wit and personable writing style were easily the best parts of the book. As I said before, I laughed out loud more than once, which I do not do particularly often when I read.

Content Rating

Rating: 3 out of 5.

There is a fair amount of swearing and some candid (albeit funny and not explicit) stories about her sex life, for those who prefer to avoid those types of things.

This is a brief review for a pretty brief book. I ultimately gave it 3.5 stars out of 5 for the easy reading style and entertainment factor, docking for language. If you’re looking for a light read or a pick-me-up book – something to make you chuckle – this is definitely a good one to grab!

Content Rating: Moderate
